서클의 CEO 제레미 알레어는 최근 코인텔레그래프와의 인터뷰에서, 스테이블코인 서클의 주요 토큰인 USD코인(USDC)이 2023년 초의 시가총액 450억 달러에서 7월 말 기준으로 260억 달러까지 급격히 하락한 것에 대해 언급했습니다.
이에 따라 알레어 CEO는 이러한 시가총액 감소와 함께 전통 금융 기업 및 기술 기업의 스테이블코인 분야 진출로 인한 새로운 경쟁에 대비하기 위해 10억 달러의 보유 현금을 확보하였다고 밝혔습니다.
알레어는 “페이팔과 같은 인터넷 결제 기업을 비롯하여 전통 금융 서비스 기업들이 암호화폐 분야로 진출하며 치열한 경쟁이 예상된다”며 새로운 경쟁자들의 등장을 환영하며 이런 동향이 더욱 확대될 것으로 전망했습니다.
하지만 CEO는 USD코인 시총 급락의 배경에는 세계 최대 암호화폐 거래소인 바이낸스가 자사 토큰을 위해 준비금에서 대규모로 USDC를 매도한 영향이 크다고 강조했습니다.
서클은 현재 웹3 이니셔티브의 일환으로 개발자를 위한 지갑 API를 출시하는 등 발전을 이어가고 있는데, 이 새로운 API를 활용하면 개발자들은 고객에게 맞춤형 다중처리 지갑을 제공할 수 있다고 밝혔습니다.
In a recent interview with CoinTelegraph, Circle CEO Jeremy Allaire noted that USD Coin (USDC), the main token of the stablecoin circle, had fallen sharply from $45 billion in market capitalization in early 2023 to $26 billion as of the end of July.
As a result, CEO Allaire said he has secured $1 billion in cash reserves to prepare for new competition from traditional financial and technology companies’ entry into the stablecoin sector, along with this decline in market capitalization.
“Traditional financial services companies, including Internet payment companies such as PayPal, are expected to enter the cryptocurrency sector, and fierce competition is expected,” Aller said, welcoming the emergence of new competitors and predicting that the trend will expand further.
However, the CEO stressed that the reason behind the plunge in USD coin market capitalization was largely due to Binance, the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange, selling USDDC on a large scale from reserves for its tokens.
Circle is currently continuing its progress by launching a wallet API for developers as part of its Web3 initiative, which it says allows developers to provide custom multi-processing wallets to their customers.
