현지 공영방송 NHK와 산케이신문에 따르면, 일론 머스크가 18일 일본을 방문하며 9년 만에 일본을 찾았습니다.
머스크는 전날 소셜미디어 플랫폼 엑스(X·옛 트위터)에 “놀라운 일본에 도착했다”라는 글을 올렸습니다.
이후 도쿄의 고토구 도요스에서 개최된 ‘팀 랩 플래닛 도쿄’ 전시회에서 찍은 것으로 보이는 동영상을 연이어 엑스에 게시했습니다.
그러나 머스크는 일본을 방문한 명확한 이유는 밝히지 않았습니다.
이와 관련해 NHK는, 머스크가 이끄는 전기차 회사 테슬라가 협력업체인 일본 파나소닉홀딩스와 함께 전기차용 신형 배터리 생산을 위한 협력을 추진하고 있다고 설명했습니다.
NHK는 또한 “9년 전 머스크가 일본에서 기자회견을 열어 일본 전기차 시장으로의 진출 의사를 표명한 사례로, 그 당시 많은 관심을 받았다”라고 전했습니다.

However, Musk did not give a clear reason for his visit to Japan.
In a related development, NHK explained that Tesla, an electric vehicle company led by Musk, is pushing for cooperation with its partner Panasonic Holdings in Japan to produce new batteries for electric vehicles.
NHK also said, “It was an example of Musk holding a press conference in Japan nine years ago to express his intention to enter the Japanese electric vehicle market, which received a lot of attention at that time.”
