서현역 흉기난동 사건, 시민들이 목격한 공포의 현장

3일 오후 6시께 평범했던 분당구 서현역 인근 퇴근 길은 갑자기 아수라장이 되었습니다. 시민들은 흉기를 들고 돌아다니는 범인을 보고 비명에 지르고 공포에 떨어야 했습니다.
당시 현장에 있던 시민 A씨는 사건 이후에도 불안감에 떠는 모습이었습니다. A씨는 “내 눈앞에서 칼부림이 났다. 흉기를 들고 돌아다니는 것을 보고 죽을 힘을 다해 도망쳤다”며 “평범했던 퇴근길인데 너무 무서워서 마음 편히 다닐 수 없다”고 떨리는 목소리로 말했습니다.
사건 직후 시민들은 SNS에 당시 영상과 사진, 글을 공유하며 불안감을 감추지 못하고 있습니다. 부상자로 보이는 시민이 백화점 바닥에 누워있고 주변에 시민들이 둘러싼 모습, 다른 부상자의 상태를 119 대원들이 살피는 모습, 폴리스 라인이 처진 채 통제되는 모습 등이 전해지고 있습니다. 시민들은 SNS에 “1층에 사람이 쓰러져 있고 2층에도 배를 잡고 사람이 쓰러져 있었다”, “칼을 들고 오는 것을 보고 도망쳤다”, “서현역 안에서 범인이 배회 중이고 사람들 안쪽에 아직 있다”는 등 당시 상황을 전했습니다.
이번 사건의 범행 장면이 담긴 폐쇄 회로(CCTV) TV 영상에도 긴박했던 상황이 고스란히 담겼습니다.
범인은 서현역 쇼핑몰에서 마스크를 쓰고 뛰어서 도망가는 여성의 뒤를 흉기를 들고 쫓아갔습니다. 정면으로 달리던 여성이 좌측으로 방향을 틀자 그는 여성을 따라가지 않고 여성 앞에 있던 다른 남성의 등을 향해 흉기를 든 손을 내밀었습니다. 이후 다른 범행 상대를 찾는 듯 두리번거리며 앞으로 달려갔습니다.
특히 영상 속 범인의 모습은 검은색 후드티를 입고 후드티에 연결된 모자를 쓴 채 검은 선글라스를 쓰고 어두운색 계열의 바지와 신발을 착용해 공포감을 더했습니다.
최근 한 달 사이 묻지마 범죄가 잇따라 발생하면서 시민들이 불안감도 극에 달하고 있습니다. 앞서 지난달 21일 서울 관악구 신림역 인근에서는 흉기 난동 사건이 발생해 1명이 숨지고 3명이 다쳤습니다.
이번 사건은 신림역 흉기 난동 모방 범죄일 가능성이 짙다는 분석이 있습니다. 이번 사건 역시 유동인구가 많은 시간대 지하철역에서 발생했으며 일면식이 없는 불특정 다수에게 흉기를 휘둘렀다는 점에서 신림역 흉기 난동 사건과 유사합니다.
더욱이 범인은 흉기를 휘두르기 전 차량을 몰고 서현역 역사 앞 인도로 돌진하여 보행자들을 들이받은 것으로 파악돼 시민들은 난생 처음 겪는 공포를 느꼈을 것으로 보입니다.

Citizens reported on social media that “a person was lying on the first floor and a person was lying on the second floor holding his stomach,” “I ran away when I saw him coming with a knife,” and “The criminal is wandering inside Seohyeon Station and is still inside the people.”
Closed-circuit (CCTV) TV footage showing the crime scene of the incident also showed the urgent situation.
The criminal wore a mask at a shopping mall at Seohyeon Station and ran after a woman running away with a weapon. When the woman who was running head-on turned to the left, he did not follow the woman and held out a hand with a weapon to the back of another man in front of the woman. After that, he ran forward looking around as if he were looking for another criminal.
In particular, the criminal in the video added a sense of fear by wearing a black hoodie, a hat connected to the hoodie, black sunglasses, and dark pants and shoes.
Citizens’ anxiety has reached its peak as a series of unsolicited crimes have occurred in the past month. Earlier on the 21st of last month, a knife rampage occurred near Sillim Station in Gwanak-gu, Seoul, killing one person and injuring three others.
Analysts say the incident is likely to be a crime of imitation of a weapon rampage at Sillim Station. The incident is also similar to the Sillim Station knife rampage in that it took place at a subway station with a large floating population and wielded a weapon against an unspecified number of people who have not met.
Moreover, the criminal was found to have driven a vehicle to the sidewalk in front of Seohyeon Station Station before wielding a weapon and hit pedestrians, which seems to have been feared for the first time in his life.
